Painted Porch – website

Painted Porch is a trio of small-town Midwest musicians—Mark Nolte, Jeff Disterhoft, and Jay Waltner—who believe great music is even better when it brings people together for a good cause.

The concept behind Painted Porch is simple: we’re an acoustic, sing-along group that plays songs you know and love, sharing stories and life lessons between the tunes. Our name is borrowed from the Stoic tradition—the “painted porch” was a gathering place for philosophy and conversation, and that’s exactly the vibe we aim to bring. We’re the folks you want around your campfire.

What sets us apart? First, our songs and our arrangements: we play only acoustic covers of the songs many of us grew up with, often putting our own unique spin on the classics. You’ll definitely recognize the music, but you might hear it in a fresh, unexpected way.

Second, and most important, is our cause: Painted Porch only plays for charity. We do what we do because we love it, and if we can raise money for great causes while having a blast, that’s our idea of success.

With the addition of Jay Waltner—a South Dakota Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee and seasoned bass player with decades of experience across genres—Painted Porch has found a groove that blends heart, harmony, and history. Jay’s journey has taken him from country, rock, and R&B bands in Chicago and Indiana to worship music in Iowa, and his passion for both music and giving back is a perfect fit for the Painted Porch mission. As Jay puts it, “I love the concept and the cause, and Jeff and Mark are just all-around good guys. I’m having a blast taking a new run at these tunes I’ve played for years (and a few that I haven’t), but in a stripped-down acoustic setting. I think they’re really on to something, and I’m excited to be a part of it.”
